Your questions answered

Do not attempt to use bleach on your dentures as it can permanently damage them, making them brittle and liable to breakage. Not just that, it can ruin their appearance making them look less natural.

Yes, but avoid using very hot or boiling water as this can distort their shape and you may need to have them relined.

When your dentures are new, we would recommend you wear them to sleep in. This helps your gums to adapt. After a week or two, we suggest removing them at bedtime to allow your gums to be cleansed by the saliva on your tongue.

5-7 years on average if relined on time.

For adults, a properly maintained mouthguard can typically last 2 to 3 years. To keep it in good condition, rinse it with cold water after use, store it in its original case, and keep it out of direct sunlight. For children and teenagers, mouthguards usually need replacing every year — or even sooner — as their mouths change with growing and shifting teeth. It's a good idea to have your dentist check the fit during regular dental visits.

Aftercare

Take your denture out and rinse it under warm water. Use toothbrush with soap or non-abrasive toothpaste to gently clean all surfaces.

At night, soak your denture in water or a denture cleaning solution. Before putting it back in your mouth, rinse it well.

Also, clean your gums and any natural teeth before putting your denture back in.

Important: Never put a dry denture in your mouth always make sure it's wet.

To apply denture adhesive, clean your denture and dry it a tissue. Apply the adhesive in thin strips or dots on the inside of the denture surface. Insert the denture into your mouth, pressing firmly and holding in place for 1 minute to ensure a secure fit.

Note: if you apply too much you will taste it, that means put less next time.

Take your denture out of your mouth. Make yourself a cup of warm water and salt (1 teaspoon is enough). Rinse your mouth with the warm water and salt till the cup is finished. Repeat this twice a day till your blister is gone.

Note: it is important to make sure your denture has been adjusted and fits properly, otherwise the blister will keep returning or it may be its time for a reline.

DK Dental Studio can professionally clean them using a special machine. We recommend this service every 6 months or as needed to keep your dentures fresh, clean, and looking their best.

Keep your dentures either in your mouth or in a denture storage box with water. Never leave them lying around—many people lose their dentures this way, and in some cases, pets (especially dogs) may chew or damage them.
